Accomplishments & Priorities

Accomplishments

When I was elected in 2018, I pledged to transform the culture on campus, to hold ourselves accountable, and to listen to our MSU community. Here are a few highlights of what we've accomplished together:

Culture

  • Cleaned up campus culture, and held administrators accountable for their actions that allowed for predators to exist on campus

  • Built the nationally-recognized Center for Survivors of sexual abuse and domestic violence, and increased investments in Relationship Violence and Sexual Misconduct resources

Affordability

  • Created the Spartan Advantage, MSU's first free-tuition program for students (a campaign promise I made in 2018)

  • Increased student financial aid many times over

​

Student Healthcare

  • Opened MSU's on-campus health center to students free of charge up-to three times per year, taking a step toward my goal of affordable, universal healthcare for all MSU students

​

Supporting Staff & Faculty

  • Passed Board policy requiring administrative neutrality and the use of the card check process during union organizing, resulting in 3 new local bargaining units on campus

​

Listening to and Working with Students

  • Constructed two new on-campus facilities for students, at their request - the Multicultural Center, and the Student Recreation and Wellness Center

Goals

Although we've made a lot of progress, we still have a long way to go. Here are a few of my priorities for our future:

Affordability

  • Expand Spartan Advantage, MSU's first free-tuition program for students, even further to give more future Spartan Michiganders affordable access to MSU

  • Build upon this effort to also include Room and Board programs, to ensure every Spartan has access to a affordable and complete higher education

Focus on Holistic Education for All Students

  • Break down all barriers to student success before they arrive on campus, while they're there, and after they leave, fulfilling MSU's land-grant mission of providing affordable access (and degree-completion) for all

​

Student Healthcare

  • Build upon our current cost-free student health efforts at MSU's campus health center to enable a 'wherever, whenever' possibility for all students
